An Auckland telegram states that Thomas Hughes, Jit), a resident of Auckland, was brought back from Sydney by the Marania yesterday to answer a charge of forging a cheque for £.'loo on the Bank, of Now South Wales at Auckland. | Ho appeared in the .Sydney Central Court on June 1(3, and was remanded to Auckland. In connection with the erection of a ndw theatre in Auckland by John Fuller'and Sons to replace the Opera House, destroyed by lire last year, additional premises next to Tonson, Garlic It's block,, already bought, have been purchased at a cost of £GO,OOO. The price paid for the whole of the Queen street frontage is over £IOOO a foot, while, the cost of the whole scheme, including the theatre and site, will be about £250,000. A meeting of: 800 lisleiiers-in in Auckland last night passed the following resolution: "Thai this public meeting of license holders and listeners, having lost: all confidence jn the intentions and capabilities of the Radio Broadcasting Co. of New Zealand to satisfactorily control broadcasting in New Zealand, strongly urges that the Government assume immediate and complete control of broadcasting on a. basis similar to that now obtaining in Great. Britain."
