RELIEF OF UNEMPLOYMENT

WELLINGTON FROPOSALS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Tlio Civic League, with the hearty support of the Mayor, Mr. Troup, who is at his wits end in regard to the unemployment problem, proposes to set up a community fund. At a meeting of the league, it was resolved that steps be taken by way of an appeal to the general body of citizens to do all they can individually and through various societies to further two objects.—(l) to push forward any small works by which deserving men may be. employed: s (2| that everyone whd is in employment should contribute towards the establishment of a community fund which will go towards 'finding employment for an additional number of men. In addition to £4OO already handed to the City Council and subsidised by it to the extent of 30s to £1 the Wellington Returned Soldiers' Association executive has decided to offer the council :i further £250 from the Poppy Day fund, subject to the same subsidy, for the purpose of employing returned soldiers. An S.O.S. is being'sent to all returned soldiers in Wellington asking those in a position to do so to Wovide work for less fortunate cone' 4ades. The Rugby Union is also | interesting itself to provide funds for the unemployed.
