PROVISION FOR PLAYING FIELDS LONDON, June 1. The appeal'—which the Duke of "Vork is sponsoring—by the National Playing Fields Movement for £1,000,000 to provide a minimum of five neves of public open space for every 1000 persons in Britain, has been launched. It is urged that 4,000,000 boys and girls have no proper accommodation for games, aud that the provision of public playing fields is one of the most pressing problems of the day. Without them ever-lasting numbers will be deprived of participation in national games, and be forced to watch others play. "The Duke and Duchess," the movement points out, "are returning horn a wonderful journey to the great open spaces of the Empire, where they have clone signal national service.
