STOPPED BY DYNAMITE
HUGE BLAZE IN AMERICA (Sydney Sun Cables.) NEW YORK, June 6. At Montgomery, Alabama, firemen dynamited city blocks, stopping a fire after £400,000 worth of damage had been done. The fire started in a rubbish dump and swept wholesale through the district. The explosion saved the largest hotel and big powder deposits in Loeb Building, which, if ignited, would have wrecked the city.
BLAZE AT RANGIORA (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. The residence of A. J. Tutton, Kangiora, was destroyed by fire to-night. The house was a large one of 10 or 12 rooms. No insurances are available.
PAHIATUA HOUSE DESTROYED (Per Press Association.) PAHIATUA, this day. A firo last night destroyed a sixroomed residence iff Halls road, owned by Mr. Alf Finch, of Palmerston North. It had been unoccupied for the last few days, and it is reported that the house lately changed hands, the last tenant leaving last Wednesday. The insurance was £BOO in the State office.
