LABOR CONFERENCE
COLLECTION OF STATISTICS (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) GENEVA, June 6. The last few days of the Labor Conference were devoted to consideration of the directors’ report on the last year’s work of the Labor Office. The South African Government’s delegate denounced the attitude of the Labor Office in pushing for the adoption of measures regardless of their subsequent effect on members. He cited nn instance of the 1925 Labor Office requesting the collection of statistics as to the the cost of sickness insurance in various countries for the information of the present conference, though the directors’ new report contains a passage expressing the opinion that no good purpose would be served by the collection of such statistics. This appears just when the conference was asked to adopt a convention on the subject. There is a growing feeling that the adoption of Labor conventions will ultimately entail intolerable burdens.
