Built for a GiTok buyer, the steamer was purchased in 1 <>io by the Poverty Bay Farmers’ Meat Co. for £318,000, a venture that caused a mild sensation in New Zealand ai the time. Facetiously known as “The Farmers’ Skip,,” the steamer lav at Auckland .for several weeks after her arrival. while her holds were being insulated. It is a happy memory for Auckland watersiders, as in addition to good pay they wore supplied on one occasion with a whopping big cheese and plenty of butter.
NO OFFICIAL ADVICE The reported sale of the Admiral Codrington was referred to Mr. W. 1). Lysuar, M.P., chairman of directors of tho Poverty Bay Farmers’ Meat Co. this morning. While Mr. Lysnar stated Hint he knetV the negotiations for the Sale of the vessel were in progress, lie had not received any official advice of the deal actually having been made. Questioned as to the position of the company as a result of the sale, Air. Lysnar said he could give no indication as to what steps the company should now take until particulars of the sale and purchase price came to hand.
