RUGBY ON THE COAST

TOLAGA v. TOKOMARU

(Herald Correspoi ido at.)

The Tolnga v. Tokomaru match was played at Tokomaru Bay on Friday, and Tolnga again proved their superiority, repenting the substantial - win that they secured in the first game, which was played at Tolnga Bay a fortnight ago. Nevertheless, the spectators were treated to a good exhibition of the game. Play throughout was fast, and often exciting. The Tolnga backs made a great, combination. W. Lockwood at second five-eighths played a splendid game, and frequently outwitted his opponents by cleaver feinting. The southern forwards had the best of .almost every scrum, and they appeared to be in better training than the Tokomaru men. Tokomaru’s defence was always good, and there was very little bungling. Good work was done by Tipi Kopua (fiveeighths) and .J. Grant (full-back). Mr. 11. W. Lambert was referee. CLUB MATCHES The club matches in the Tokomaru sub-Union were continued on Saturday at Waipiro Bar, City seniors lost to' Tawhiti 13—0. ' Mr.' U. \V. Lambert refereed. Tawhiti juniors also had a win over City, to the tune of 20—8. Mr. Bradley refereed. At Tokomaru Bay, Wanderers seniors defeated W a ini a by a good margin. Waima put. up a game fight, with only five of their proper team available, most of the men being engaged in working the Port Auckland, which was in the bay. Mr. J. Corbett was referee. SCHOOL MATCHES Tokomaru Bay’s best seven journeyed to Waipiro Bay on Saturday to play a seven-a-side mutch with the Waipiro school boys, and were victorious, the score being 23 to 5. Mr Bilham refereed. The Waipiro Bay girls, however, turned the tables when they defeated their neighbors at basket-ball by 12 points to 7. The visitors were royally entertained by tl.e Waipiro Bay ladies in the pavilion.
