SEARCH FOR OIL
A QUEENSLAND BORE CANBERRA, May 6. Prospects of finding commercial oil at Roma, Queensland, have so impressed the Minister for Home and Territories, Mr. Marr, that he has approved of a grant of £IO,OOO as a subsidy to assist the boring operations of the Roma Oil Co. The grant is made on a £ for £ basis, in accordance with the terms of the Petroleum Prospecting Act. Tho company will find £IO,OOOO also for the work. Mr. Marr said to-day that ho was impressed by the experts’ reports hegarding the’ locality. Owing to fears of the possibility of water interferfevenco in the bores ho had arranged that. Mr. Latham Watson, the expert attached to the department, should remain for some time at Roma and watch operations, in consultation with the company’s engineers. Mr. Latham Watson left Melbourne for Queensland on Tuesday. The Roma bore has now reached a depth of 2500 ft.
