NAVAL STRENGTH
CONFERENCE ON REDUCTION (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, May 9. Cabinet has decided to appoint Lord Cecil with Mr. Walter Bridgman as head of the British delegation to the Disarmament Conference, in view of the former's position and experience at the conference on the Preparatory Commission. It is confirmed that the delegation will submit proposals further limiting the size of battleships and cruisers rather than numbers. The conference, at which the United States, Britain ,and Japan will be represented, is fixed to meet at Geneva on June 20. In a rider to the Congregational Union's resolution asking the Government to take a lead in.decreasing armaments and accept the principle of international arbitration, the Rev. Herbert) Stead said he regretted that tho Imperial Conference refused to sign Article 06 of the League covenant. The rider protested that this was a backward step. The Rev. P.. W. Norwood, in seconding the motion',- said it had been hinted that the Dominions dictated the conference's decision. "I, as an Australian, have been numordusly reproved for my attitude clashing with that of my native land. We have progressed beyond idea of supporting a country right or wrong. The, rider was overwhelmingly carried.
