PRESSMAN'S LITTLE ERROR
SHIPWRECKED PASSENGERS
SYDNEY, April 29
When the first party of passengers from the Riverina arrived at Central Station at 5 o'clock last Friday morning.n rumor went round to the effect that one of the young women had come ashore without any money, and that ghe had not the price of a taxi. Immediately n newspaper man started a "two-bob in" subscription, and lyhen about a pound was collected he tactfully approached the girl and offered the money with all apologies for butting-in. She as politely declined the sum, saying that she was well supplied with funds, and the rumor must have been incorrect. While the pressman was rather wrathfully returning the "two-bobs" he learned incidentally that the lady in question was one of the wealthiest on board and had been one of several who hired a special car at considerable expense to reach the railway. She departed from Central Station in a limousine, but not before she had Bought out the kindly collector and shaken his hand and thanked him again, she also gave him an excellent story of life on the stranded vessel, so that bis action brought its own reward.
