COLOR IN ARCHITECTURE

INTERESTING EXPERIMENTS IN AMERICA. NEW YORK, March 20. The colored skyscraper is indicated as the newest phase of American building art at the Architectural and Allied Arts Exposition now in progress here. As a sample of the new school of architectural polycliromy is shown a largo section of the cornice of the new Philadelphia Museum of Art, constructed in facsimile, with brilliant reds, blues, and greens forming the color scheme. A more subdued example of the use of color is shown in the model of the Park Avenue Building, with its patches of sky blue-blended with palest bull), and touched off with -bits of crimson. The number of tall structures in New York City which make use of color has grown from two or three half a dozen years ago to several dozen at the present time. The American Radiator Building, all black and gilt, is still (be most striking, but a considerable proportion of the skyscrapers new being erected show the influence of New York's aspiration for vividness in architecture.
