(Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day

Tho Wairoa racos opened in brilliant weather, tho attendance being slightly above that on the opening day last year. The course is in good condition. Results: —

Trial Handicap: 5 Gold Streak (France) 1, 1 Night Gambler (Atkins) 2, 4 Taukari (Dixon) 3. Also started: ;: Volt ore (Mcllroyj, 2 Dreamy (Fanning), 0 The Heathen (McHugh). The favorite was badly left. Dreamy taking the early lead and increasing it to "four lengths half there. Gold Streak came from third position, challenging at the straight entrance and easily accounting for Dreamy. Night Gambler finished well three lengths behind Gold Streak, though badly placed at the start. Time, 1.15 4-5, Te Kupenga Handicap: 4 Waioeka Jack (J. Nixon,) 1, Tino Mauuga 2, Carniota 3. Gobi Dot was slow away. Tino Mavmga and Wni.oeka Jack showing the war over the first furlong, after which Waioeka .lack went ahead to a three lengths lead. Oarniola mi proved over the third furlong and Manutai moved up on the approach to the straight. The leader seemed beaten at the distance, but responded well and staved off defeat by a neck. Camiola finished a good third and Gold Dot improved substantially in the straight, finishing first of those out of a place. Time, 1.15 1-5. Wairoa Handicap: 2 Princess Nat a (P. Atkins') 1, 1 Morose 3, 3 Pita, 3. Princess Nata made "no race "of the principal handicap. Eying belaud Pita and Morose for nearly a mile, she came away at the two-furlong post and won'easily. Morose wore Pita-down and beat him home by a length. Time, 2.7. ______
