WALKING ROUND AUSTRALIA
12,000 MILES TO'DAT!
DARWIN. Jan. (i.
(.'. .T. cle Lancourt, who left Sydney on February 1, 1924, on a walking tour round the coast of Australia, arrived here, having covered' 12,000 miles to date.
From Wallal his gear was carried by donkeys, two of which perished. His only companion from the North west (.'oast was Francis Young, a geologist, who is finishing the trip with him to Svdnev.
They will leave here on Saturday, via Alligator river, across Arnheim Land, round the Gulf to Cape York. There is a great probability of their being delayed in the Alligator river country by the oncoming wet season, but nevertheless de Lancourt expects to reach Sydney by next August. He had some exceedingly rough experiences, traversing the country between Derby and Wyndham, and again between Wyndham and Darwin, but, he did not meet with any opposition from the natives. However, owing to having to keep watch, he has averaged only three hours sleep. Despite this, he is in the pink of condition.
