GROWTH IN BRITAIN
LONDON, Jan. -1. The growing use of cheques for financial transactions is mentioned in
the review of the Bankers' Clearing House.
This is despite the fact that the cheque has now to bear a 2d stamp instead of a Id stamp, as in pro-war (lays. It is pointed out that the yield to the revenue of the 2d duty on cheques

j ears from £2.504;000 to £8,188,000. This latest return, which constitutes a record, represents approximately 10 cheques drawn per annum per head of the population.
