CHALLENGE ISSUED
SPAHLINGER'S SERUM
"COME INTO THE OPEN"
(Australian and N.Z. Cable Associalion.) LONDON, Jan. 4.
The Daily Express is carrying on a vigorous campaign in order to force the whole question of the Spnhlinger euro into the- open. The Express says: "It may be the greatest boon ever conferred upon mankind, or it may be ineffective to the point of harmfulness. Spahlinger may be the leading bacteriologist of the age, or he may be a misguided, even a self-seeking fanatic, but the time has come when Spahlinger can no longer refuse to submit his sorum to a complete and open investigation conducted by impartial authorities." Spahlinger, replying to Sir Warden Chilcott's offer of £IOOO if the want of money is withholding serum from England, says: "I do not think further charity is necessary. The sale of bovine vaccine will soon provide all that is needed to continue the preparation. The delay chiefly was attributable to simplifying the vaccine, so that it is now producnblo at a cost which will make it available to every; cue.''
