Sergeant A. F. Peryer, of the Gisbonie machine-gun platoon of the Ist Hawke's Bay Territorial Regiment, has received advice that he has been successful in obtaining a pass in the examination for first appointment for commission. The Diocese of Waiapu recently arranged with tho Chu'rch Army for the services of an evangelist, and Captain Ball was sent. out. " He is doing good work in the various railway camps on the. East Coast, and at Waikaremoana, holding regular services, states the Church News.
Mr M. Connelly., railway guard at Dunedin, and formerly president of the A.S.R.S., has Announced bis intention of again contesting the presidency. He was recently elected to represent the traffic department of the southern district, South Island, at the biennial conference which meets in Wellington on February 8.
