FIRE IN CHRISTCHURCH

'•A fire which originated in some shavings caused severe damage to the property of Staniland Ltd., salt, spice, and cofle merchants, Moorhouse avenue, yesterday afternoon. The machinery was damaged, and salt, grain, and other produce were destroyed by fire and water, and the premises were gutted, involving a serious loss. After a hard fight, the hrigade experienced a difficult task in keeping the flames from spreading to adjacent properties. ' . The insurances on the stock and machinery total £3IOO, and the building is insured for £SOO, both policies being with the Southern Union Office.
