WILL PREVENT WAR
WORK OF THE LEAGUE LOSD CECIL OPTIMISTIC (Australian and N:7„ Cubto Association LONDON, Dec. 5, Lord Cecil, in Geneva, stated that he was well satisfied with the result off- the disarmament sub-committee's deliberations. These, possibly, will be Die turning point in the League's history. The League was now turning its attention to the prevention of war instead of provision for the punishment of the aggressor. "Under the projects we have ordered to be prepared," continued Lord Cecil, "the League would be convoked immediately a threat of war was made and would remain in const ant session, utilising every means to prevent war. Had it been possible in August, 1014, to summon such a Council, it is almost certain that the Great War would have been prevented. We have also recommended a measure which will enable the Council to use all the League's weapons and influence on behalf of the attacked 'nation in the event of war being actually started." ■gi 19
