At Blaine, Washington State, Queen Marie, en route to Seattle, to-day dedicated a. peace portal on the United States-Canadian border, and expressed a hope that similar portals would bo built throughout the world to fake the place of the monuments which "recall only ' deeds of war."

That Mr. Henry Ford is paying the incidental expenses of the Queen and her entourage, on the -North American tour, was revealed to-day by Mr. •). 1!. Ayres, the personal representative of Mr. Ford with the party, who estimated tiiat the tour cost .Mr. Ford about 5C0,(XX) dollars. .Kxpeuses included 'loans" to members of Queen Marie's retinue "for everything from cigarettes and chewing gum to limousines." Air. Carroll, commenting on this, said that Mr. Ayres was taken aboard on the understanding that he would remain inconspicuous, arranging transportation. "lie had no authority to make any statement, and, because he has broken his agreement with me, he will leave the train to-night. We made every effort to make this journey a dignified one, and to divorce it entirely from any suggestion of commercialism or of advertising to that end, no one has been permitted to come aboard the train except those necessary for the comfort and safety of Her Majesty." Mr. Carroll said the expends of the tour were paid by the railroads and the local reception committees.

While Queen Marie is in America, there is great tension, foreshadowing dramatic events in Rumania. King Ferdinand is reported to he Healing death, 'litis fact has brought to an end the artificial calm which followed Prince Carol's renunciation.

The King has been observed driving on the boulevard, a sick and broken ligure. reclining on the upholstery of the car, with the air of a doomed man. His attendance at Court ceremonies has not been altogether camelled, because his retirement is most likely. The Court physicians, nevertheless, are convinced that the King's days are numbered. This is known to Prince Carol, who. recently sought his father's permission to return, despite political opposition. Political pressure was brought, to bear on Helen, his wife, to obtain a divorce, hul she declared defiantly that Prince Carol must return. "We belong together," she said, "and the throne belongs lo him." The portents are thai (he King and Queen are eager lor the reinstatement of Prince Carol.
