ROWING
* POVERTY BAY CLUE The semi-final of the first trial fours of ihe Poverty Bay Club was rowed on Saturday evening between the' crew? of W, Miehie and J. Bacon. Miehie got the better of the start, and had a lead of nearly a length at Derby street. Bacon called for weight, and reduced the lead consider- •. ably. Linf when threatened Miehie called on his crew and drew away again. Although Miehie was in the lead all the way, ii was a good race to watch, for both crews rowed with good combination. Bacon persisted in his endeavor to regain equal terms, ' but Miehie thwarted his every attempt. Miehie deserved his popular win, becau.se he rowed a splendidly-judged race, and he should be hard to beat at (i o'clock this evening when he meets F. A. Stichburv's crew :in the Jinn I.
