MAORIS AT CARDIFr
VICTORY BY 18 TO 8. (Elee. Tel. Copyright—United Press Ansa.) (Australian and JS.Z. Cable Association., LONDON, November 7. Wretched weather affected the attendance at the Maoi'i-Cardiff match, yet iiO.GOO were present to see the Maoris win by 18 points to 8 Play, especially the passing, was poor. The Mapri team was: Pelham, Falwasser, Phillips, Mete, Wineera, Love, Olsen, Stewart, Haupapa, liika, Uemmeil, Tatana, Wilson and Manihera. It was the failure of Cardiff to handle the ball securely that caused the size of the Maoris' score. This was especially so in the second spell, when the forwards often were so succesful that it would have been wiser tactics to have kept the ball close. Instead they attempted to open the game up and the ball went astray, enabling - k the Maori opportunists to gain the advantage. Cardiff scored first, Davies. dribbling after Falwasser had lost possession near the line And getting over for Male to convert. The Maoris rallied quickly and Love scored a good try, which Phillips failed to convert. Male then landed a penalty goal, after which Mete, charging dowii Davies' kick, secured a try. Pelham adding a goal. The half-time score stood B—B. The Maoris improved in the second half, the forwards especially being hardworking. Pelham, Falwasser and Mete were most prominent in defence. Love charged down Turnbull's kick, secured the ball and passed to Wineera, who got across, Pelham converting. The visiting forwards, dribbling magnificently, worked the ball to the Cardiff line, where Cornish failed to gather it in and Wineera scored another try, which Pelham topped off with another goal.
