BROKER'S SUICIDE

REVEALS POSITION DEFICIENCY OP £4171 (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. At a meeting of creditors in the estate of tho late Hassell George do F. Garland, a sharebroker who committed suicide on September 14, the Official Assignee stated that it appeared so far that £GSOO was owing to ordinary creditors, the total liabilities being £BSOO. The assets totalled £4383, leaving a. deficit of £4171. It was estimated that the estate would pay 7s to 8s in the £. There wore life insurance policies, but/these were of no benefit to the creditors. Four creditors' representatives signed, claims in order to form a quorum, the largest being the Diocesan Board. £SOOO, and Cluthn Mackenzie, £550. The meeting resolved that the shares be placed on the market for early sale, and that the offer by members of the Stock Exchange- not to press claims against tho estate, for £(500 if the general creditors did not press a claim for deceased's stock exchange seat valued at £L\")O, be accepted with, thanks, and that deceased's interest in an Olago claims syndicate be investigated, it being stated I hat he held a £SOO shjire, on which £3OO was owing. The deceased's personal effects ineluded a silver cigarette case presented to him by the Prince of Wales. The meeting was v adjourned.
