Maoris dropped a bombshell into the Welsh Rugby camp by asking that the match against Newport on October 21 be played under Knglish rules, and raising, further, an objection to the names of the Welsh referees. Ii is believed tins surprising development is tlie outcome of an incident at Twickenham in 192,'i when a Welsh referee ordered a New Zealander off the ground. A hurried meeting of the Newport, committee decided to put the facts before the Welsh Union, which is to meet on .Monday to consider the matter. The Daily Express says there is a possibility that the Maoris may, cancel the four Welsh matches, as they take exception to the Welsh rule prohibiting a player advancing in front of a. scrummage unless the ball is actual I v out.
