ADVERSE TO SKYSCRAPERS
LIMIT ON HEIGHT OF AUCKLAND BUILDINGS. Objection to any proposal to erect buildings in Auckland of a greater height than: 102 feet, the limit allowed by the by-law, was made to the City Council by the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners. The city engineer (Mr, W. E. Busty said that he was in entire sympathy with the society, as he was confident that in the best interests of the sociey, now and in the future, the present limit should not be exceeded. All town-planning authorities would be in entire agreement with this. If the height of buildings in the citv was to be increased, it would mean that the present services for water, sewerage, power and gas would not be sufficient for the.higher density of population that would bo brought about. ,In addition, the actual street area would not be in proportion to the cubical contents of buildings that would bo erected on such streets. The matter was referred to the. works committee.
