TEA SHOP FIRE
EXTENSIVE DAMAGE A HURRIED ESCAPE (Per Press Association.) PALMERSTON’ N., this day. A lire which originated’ at 7.30 this morning in a tea-shop in the main street resulted in Die total destruction of Die building, and extensive damage lo two adjoining shops, Die stock of which was badly damaged by smoke ami wafer. The tea-moms were occupied by Atrs. Finch, and the other two shops by Mr. I’enk.cth, a pawnbroker, and Mr. Day, a bookseller and fancy goods merchant. A couple who live at the rear of Dio premises, had to make a hurried exit by the rear, a.s the. smoke was overpowering; in Din front of the shop. Mr. Penkdh’s insurance was for £350 on the stock and fittings, and Mr. Days for £2CO on the stock, fittings, and household gbods. Airs. Finch’s insurance is not available. All three buildings were owned bv the Ooombemstnte, ami each was insured for £SOO. ’ Smoke and water did minor damage to the premises of ;i tea-room on the other side, occupied! liy <!rnnf and Mitchell, land agenis, w I lose insurance on tin?
