CLAIMS REJECTED
AREAS OF NATIVE LAND AMERICAN'S ACTION (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The claims of William Webster, an American citizen who left New Zealand m 1845, to large areas of land alleged to have been purchased from the natives from 1836 to 1839 have been finally settled by Ihc British and American Claims Arbitration Tribunal. Wcbstei died in 1897, leaving bis entire cstati to bis widow. The whole of Webster's claims varied from 6,t(K>,COQ dollars ii 1895 to £26S,CCQ in 1890. That the tribunal arrived at a just decision lo*reject the claims is attributed largely to the able and convincing manner in which the British case was pre pared by the late Sir John Salmond who, as Solicitor-General'; visited Wash iugton and England in 1913 ill connection (herewith.
