Four teams were entered for the race, and the first distance was run by Edgar, Swan, Chari wood and Hutchinson. Thi.s handicap was estimated at about, half a mile, and Brown seemed to be in a hopelesgi position, but lie tackled liis task determinedly, and astonished the spectators by finishing his distance only a few yards, behind the others. Ingram. Barker, Truman and Thompson were the finishers for the respective teams, Thompson being the worst off at Hie beginning, and never showing up with tlio others. Ingram stayed with the other two for some distance, but over the .last mile went away, winning with some ease.
