GIRL GUIDES

MANUTUKE TROOP INTERESTING DISPLAY A very creditable display by the officials and members of the Manutuke Gill Guide troop was staged in the .Memorial Hall lust evening, this being the first appearance of the company before the public. There was a. good attendance and the display was much appreciated. The first item on the programme was the enrollment of six new guides by Mrs Edmonds, of Gisborne, the Commissioner, who also gave an address on the aims and objects of the movement, which was very much appreciated by the parents.

The next item was a. display of handcraft, which showed the making of kits, spinning of wool, sewing, and cooking. The. sweots and cakes that were made wove sold during intervals. The various types of pot dances were carried out by some, of the Maori guides, who sang to the tunes as they executed the dances. Games, signalling, and relay races caused much amusement, and interesting items were given on ambulance work, such as first aid, and what to do in case of a broken leg, spi ■ained ankle, fainting, etc. A Highland dance was very gratefully performed by one of the youhg recruits. A feature of the evening was the songs given by the guides, ami the last item was a campfire scene, ,in which a. number of songs were contributed by the Manutuke and Gisborne guides. Mr Edmonds, of Gisborne, took the opportunity to- thank Misses Bar tram and Newman, captain and lieutenant.of tin; troop respectively, for the pleasant evening and the interesting performance of the company, remarking that from what he had seen he was sure they would soon have a much larger company at Manutuke. The evening was concluded by the singing of the National Anthem.
