TRAMWAY POLL
DISSATISFIED VOTERS TIIEIR COURSE CLEAR That the course of dissatisfied voters, in connection with tho recent tramway poll in Gisborne, is perfectly clear was stated to-day by Mr. W. D. Lysnar, M.P. Tho Act of last year lays down the steps to ho taken for the clearing up of any dispute as to the conduct of the poll. “ 1 was sorry to notice that there was ground for dissatisfaction with regard to the way the voting paper was drawn up,” remarked .Mr. Lysnar, who, it. will be remembered, made a strenuous defence of the tramways system during the campaign for their abolition. “ I have not had the opportunity of examining the voting paper,” he continued, “ but if there is any just ground for considering that the voting paper at tho poll did not truly represent the wishes of the people, the procedure is very clear and distinct, under the Act of last year. This provides that in cases of dissatisfaction with the result of any poll, a petition signed by any ten electors may bo lodged within fourteen days of tho taking of tho poll, demanding an inquiry as to the. conduct of the voto.
“ It is very regrettable that in so important a matter as this there should be ground! dor knowing that some at least of the ratepayers have wrongly recorded their votes, and if the ratepayers, or a section of them, desire to have the matter gone into, (heir course is simple and clear.”
