PICKED UP BY DUNEDIN 25 MILES PROM GISBORNE NO DETAILS AVAILABLE Private information was received in Gisborne enilv this afternoon by wireless that the vessel Awnnin, which was reported to j e distress near Welington on Tuesday night, has been picked up by the H.M.S. Dunedin 25 miles nmth of Gisborne. Details of the condition of the ves.w. and the intentions regarding the vosse were not available. Latest wireless messages indicates that the Avarua- was found at Gable End foreland, north of Whangora, by the Dunedin, which is standing by.

NEWS FROM AUCKLAND (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this clay. H.M.S. Dunedin reports having found the Awarua.

EARLIER ADVICES MINISTERIAL STATEMENT (Per Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The search for The missing steamer Awarua still continues. The Harbor Board tug Toia, in command of tho deputy,harbormaster, Captain J. Spence, has not yet returned to port, and tfc has not been possible to establish any definite communication with her to-day as the tug’s wireless equipment is apparently not in proper working order. Shortly after noon to-day, tho Toia) made an endeavor to establish communication, with Wellington, but it was not found possible to pick up the message. It is surmised by officials of the Marine Department that the Toia is now returning to port , as she has been at sea since Wednesday morning. A meeting of Cabinet was held this morning to discuss what should be dono in regard to searching for tho missing vessel. Following the meeting a statement was made by tho Minister of Marine, the ITonc O. J. Anderson, to the effect that the Marine Department has had the tug Toia out- for the past two clays. She has not returned, nor has she wirelessed. To-day the Terawhili will be provisioned 1 and had! been despatched from Wellington. Tho Nora Niven has been sent from Napier with instructions to make a. thorough search in a southerly direction.

Onn of the warships at present at Auckland has been instructed to proceed to tho locality, and from t.ho north to make a most minute search. Vessels approaching the New Zealand coast have been communicated 1 with and the department is doing all passible to locate the vessel. In addition several steamers on the coast are taking part in tho search, under instruction from the Marine Department. As far as is known the Tamalia, Citv of Newcastle and Kaimanawa arc all actively searching for the missing Awarua. The Kaimanawa left port, last evening for Lyttelton, and she reported this morning she had seen nothing of the Awarua, but was continuing the search. *lt is stated there had been a heavy fall of snow n.t sea. lasting until this morning, and this has had tho effect making the visibility very bad. If. i.s reported that a- heavy south-west gale is blowing, with heavy seas. Rtrorv. south-west winds have been blowing in the citv for several days.

The police and others are searching the shore.

DUNEDIN LEAVES AUCKLAND

ACQKLAXD, last, night. H..M.S. Dunedin, which hast been engaged in firing practice in the Ilauraki Golf, departed to-dav under orders f o search for the missing steamer Awnrua.
