GRAVE SHORTAGE
SUVA’S WATER SUPPLY ENOUGH FOR ONE MONTH (Special to the Herald.) Al t KLAM), this day. The water supply of Suva is only equal to one month’s ordinaty usage, owing to the prolonged drought. The supply has dwindled down to the danger point, and recentl}' lire Public Works Department announced that there was only .live days’ full supply, the, water would lie cm- otf from 6 to 8 a.in., and from fa to 8 p.m. daily, and perhaps more often unless rain fell. ‘The town has never been faced before with such an acute shortage,” writes the Herald's Apia, correspondent. ‘‘Natives and Indians- are notoriously careless in wasting- Hie water, and it
seems impossible to make them take greater care. To make matters worse few- native houses have any meters, so that the water is allowed to he used without care.”
