WOOL TRADE
The Sydney correspondent of the “Manchester Guardian writes: Still another method of improving the existing jute wool pack lias been submitted to the Australian wool trade, involving treatment of the jute pack, which, it is claimed, removes, or at all events renders innocuous, the coarse jute fibre. A composition in liquor form is applied to the interior of the pack, and when dry, it is stated, the fibre disappears. The firm submitting the idea states that the composition is waterproof, is not sticky, and the wool, when pressure is applied, comes away readily. When the hales are cut it is claimed that 75 per cent, less fibre is shown. The cost of treating is estimated at 9d to Is a bale, and, if large quantities are treated, 6d. It would bo necessary to apply the composition to the material before the pack was made or turn the pack inside out after manufacture. The inventors state they have experimented with the composition for the past five years, and that the weight of (he bale increases very slightly by the application of tile composition.
