' TAXPAYERS’ BURDEN

LONDON. Aug. 26.

According to a report issued by the Ministry of Health, all forms of poor relief for the year ended March 31 amounted to £39.500,000. as compared with 1136,750,000 for last year.

The actual share met by the ratepayers was £54i000,000. as compared with £ll,750,000 before, the war. There are at present 1,840,000 ’recipients. The . report ascribes the increase to laxity in administration.
