AMATEUR WIRELESS.
COMMUNICATION WITH ENGLAND. A DUNEDIN REPORT. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. From his station at- St. Clair, with a power of 20 watts, Air N. Shrimpton, 4AO-, communicated with an English amateur, G2OD, Gorrards Cross, between 5.30 and 6 p.m. yesterday. The English station was on a wave length of 31.9 metres and 4AO- was on 27 metres. Communication was steady and clear. The well-known Gisborne amateur, Mr Ivan O’Meara, stated 1 this morning that the 0201) station*was known to a number of New Zealand amateurs, this being one of the first English stations “called up.” Mr O’Meara first' communicated with G2OD two years ago, and lias since been in constant touch with that station and others throughout England. His remarkable successes have now been extended to practically every country .in the world, the latest communication being with an amateur in Norway. At the present time Air O’Alenya p's diverting his attention to securing from leading English amateurs the latent developments regarding equipment.. In order that he may have his station as up-to-date as possible- he is ascertaining all the latest innovations, and for this purpose spends one. io two hours nightly in communication with English stations. At the end 1 of June there were 125.017 wireless licenses in Australia, being 2.1 per cent, of the population, or an increase for the year of nearly 100 per cent. Victoria leads with 63,000 licenses and, New South Wales has 36,000.
