LAUNCH SWAMPED.
ONE DROWNED; THREE SAVED.
CROSSING THE BAR
BRISBANE, June 3-
One man was drowned and three others \yeire picked up after, swimming about for over an, hour outside the mouth- of the Maroo'chy River this morning, following the swamping of their launch while they were endeavouring to cross the bar.
The drowned man was Vivian kins, while those saved were Harry Saunders. 22 • Leonard Griffiths, 29; and Harold Kelk, 19. The four had been outside fishing, and when endeavouring to como in over the bar, a big sea was running. The launch was swamped, leaving tbo four struggling in the water. A man who witnessed the disaster from the North Head, gave the alarm, and Lionel F.ggins and H. Pickering immediately set out in a launch. They were in time to save three of the party. The bar is so rough that the rescuing launch will not yet venture a return 1 rip.
