The House of Commons re-assemblop at 11 o'clock this morning and.devoted the sitting to a diseu.ssiqn on Mr. C. M. Kindersley's Judicial Proceedings (otherwise..known us the Regulation of Reports) Bill, providing that in reports of divorce cases, only the names aiid addresses of the parties, a concise statement of the grounds of submission on points' of law, Judge's summing up, the,.verdict and the Judge's cbmments, be publjshablc in the press. .Infringement carries a penalty' of £5(10 and three months' imprisonment. Mr. Kindersley said the bulk of the newspapers had a sense of duty, but some deliberately exploited unsavoury eases.
' Sir .W-. -E. .Hume-Williams, K.C., .moved the rejection of the .Bill. ,Ho said the present law was framed to protect the, very people the Bill purported to befriend, and to prevent the, evils which the Bill now designed to stop. Publicity was the greatest, de-s terrent to easy access to the,Divorce Court; the :Bill Avould make access easier. If they were going to clean the public stable, why leave untouched books and plays dealing with sex ihattcrs.
