DAIRY PRODUCE.

control board’s policy. CRITICISM ANSWERED. (Per Presa Association.) I JAW ERA, Lust night. At the meeting of dairy farmers and factory directors 'this afternoon, Mr. Grounds, eliairnian of the Control Hoard, reviewing the policy of tins Hoard, favored a Dairy Council in order to get in closer luueli with the various districts. The present .system of election was altogether unsatisfactory. Me submitted that there had been no change in the Board's- policy that warranted the view that the Board bad changed the outlook as far a* the question of control was concerned. Referring to criticism, he said there had been a good deal of concentration work. The Hoard only desired to arrange a satisfactory distribution for the British market through the existing channels. it. was arranging to follow an absolutely fair course, allocating supplies on the basis of previous amounts supplied in various quarters-, ’flic Board’s policy was to have distributors in tout.'ll witli the central office, reporting daily how the market was pros greasing. He denied the suggestion of alleged domination of the Board by Waikato suppliers and deprecated the tendenev to bring the Board into local squabbles. It had been suggested that the Boa-id's policy of control .should he deferred. This would be fatal. He opined if would mean the loss of control of the industry by the producers. Members of the Board believed in being given a chance to display the soundness of the policy laid before Hie industry, which would be pul into execution next month. Other speakers were Messrs. 11. I).

Forsyth (Taranaki). .T. Fisher (Southland), and J. R. Thacker (Canterbury), who said members of 1 lie Board supported the policy of control, and referred to the work already done iri the producers’ interests. Mr. W. Goodt’ellow. of the Waikato, characterised as absolute rubbish the talk of Waikato dominance. Ho urged it was essential the Board should be strongly supported to enable it to carry out its decisions.

After a number of questions bad been answered, Mr. Corrigan (lla.wera) proposed that this meeting of dairy producers recommends the Control Board to postpone taking absolute control meantime, the time proposed being inopportune.

Mr. Purdio (Waitara) seconded. Ail amendment was moved by Mr. Cocker, (Kawhiliroa) that this meeting favors the policy outlined by Mr. Grounds, and Mr. Dunn (Auroa) seconded. On a division being taken, the amendment- was lost- by two voles—62 to 64 — and the motion was then ckda.ral negatived on the voices- ', '.
