EGYPTIAN HONORED.
TRIBUTE FROM MOUNTED RIFLES. The special gold medal presented by the Minister of Defence (the Hon. Sir Heaton Rhodes) to J. E. Mishalony Bey, M.8.E., of Mount Lebanon, Syria, on behalf of the Regiments of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles, "for services rendered," has drawn from the recipient a grateful acknowledgment to Sir R. Heaton Rhodes.
"I am but performing a duty when I inform your Excellency how much 1 have been touched and how grateful I am to Your Excellency and to all the, members of the brigade for expressing their appreciation of the ninny services that .1 have had the great pleasure of performing to all the soldiers that wore, strangers in a strange land," runs the letter. "I felt it my sacred duly to do all in my power to help to servo those
. . . . who nobly sacrificed Ihemselves for the Groat Cause, ... " The medal has tho New Zealand coat of ainis on one side and the name of the recipient on the other, with mention of the esteem in which he was held by the regiment.
