RIFF REBELLION.
ABDEL KRIM WANTS PEACE. CAPTAIN CANNING TAKES A HAND. FRENCH DECLINE TO DISCUSS PROPOSALS MADE. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.) PARIS, Dec. 22. Captain Gordon Canning, special correspondent to the Daily Express, with Abdel Krim, has arrived in Paris in the hope of discussing Moroccan peace with M. Britind, who refuses to meet Captain. Canning, pointing out that pctacc must be jointly discussed with France and Spain. Captain Canning states that Abdel Krim is ready to acknowledge the Sultan’s spiritual authority if France and Spain will grant autonomy analogous to the British Dominions. He is ready to recognise the principle of the open door for Morocco, but demands the evacuation of Adjir. In return he will abandon his claim to Tetuan. The Spaniards will thus have Melilla, Euta, Earache and a hinterland of twentyfive kilometres. Abdel Krim’s, letter does not give Captain Canning authority to enter into negotiations. KRIM’S PEACE TERMS. PARIS, Dec. 14.—The Riff leader, Abdel Krim, Ims re-opened peace nego tuitions. He is demanding that. Riff be given the same status as a British Dominion, with himself recognised as Emir.
