AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
HARRIERS’ EVENING MEETING. Two events, a half-mile flat race and a two-mile cycle event, were conducted by the Harriers’ Club at; the Reserve last evening, and were witnessed by a good number of spectators. The flat race was won by W. Ingram, and J. Douglas carried off the wheel event. Ten competitors went to the mark in the. first of the events, and a good start was secured. Ingram went to the front from the start, and set a good pace for the initial lap. He then allowed J. Ballantyne to take the lead, but about 500 yards from the finish cracked on pace and won by ten yards. Ballantyne was beaten for second place by J. Roberts. Douglas won the wheel race by reason of his sprinting powers. ,1L Goldsmith led to the last lap but one, but the eventual winner then came through and won by two lengths. Goldsmith was second and J. Algie third, close -up. The flat race was run in 2mins. 12 2-5 secs., and the wheel event took sndns. 59sees.
