AMATEUR ATHLETICS.
OPENING OF SEASON. The official opening of the track season, to have been held by the Gisborne Amateur Athletic and Harrier Club on October 30, has been postponed to November 2. by a decision of the executive. The events to be conducted are a 75 yards handicap and a mile cycle handicap. It is anticipated that good fields will take part in the initial evening meeting. The track at the Reserve has now been marked out and 1 should he in good condition for the opening run. With tho large number of new members who are joining the club a record season should result. The visit of an American team of champion athletes in January, and tho probability that R. A. Rose, I). Paris, and C. R. Flett, of the Wellington Centre will compete at a meeting in Gislionie, indicate that the organisers will have a busv time.
Entries for the opening meeting close ori Friday with Mr. W. F. Ingram, from whom official numbers can be obtained.
