LIVE WIRES.
MORE PRECAUTIONS NEEDED. (Special to the Herald.' WELLINGTON, th is (lay. Two reeeut fatalities, duo to livo wires in tlie street, caused Mr. de la Pcvrolle (Awartia) to raise the matter in 1 lie House, asking the Minister of Works if his Department was taking steps to minimise the great risk, which would increase in view of the great extension of electric reticulation in New Zealand. The ITori. ,T. 0. Coates assured the House that the electricity branch of the Works Department made very careful investigations in connection with all accidents due to live wires, and it had legislation prepnred for the purpose. It hoped to make safeguards to the extent that the workmanship oti lines was done by qualified people. This ought to have some good effect, but in regard to live wires falling down through damage by trees and storms, there would always be some difficulty. The history of all aecidents which occurred was eolleeted by his Department with a view to getting data, and imposing further safeguards.
