Air Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, stated to a Wellington pressman to-day that lio could not affirm the statement credited to him at a meeting at which the entertainment of the American fleet’s visit was discussed, to the effect that there had never been alcoholic liquor at civic functions in the Auckland Town Hall. He had made no such statement. A member of the Wellington Council has given notice of his intention to move for the withholding of the council's grant of £2030 for entertaining the visitors pending an undertaking that no part shall be spent in liquor. As the result of a report that wreckage was found on the Titahi beach yesterday. an official examination made to-day disclosed parts of a'fisherman’s boat and hatch board. The marking on the latter indicates that it. came from the Cyrena. None of the wreckage is of recent origin. Reported sales: Rotoiti Timber Co., £1 3s, cum. div.: Wilson’s Cement Co., £1 13s 6d. DUNEDIN, this day. William Henry Divert, aged 54, died in hospital, where he was admitted on Juno 27, from head injuries, caused through falling down the steps of a public convenience.
