Air Baildon, Mayor of Auckland, stated to a Wellington pressman to-day that lio could not affirm the statement credited to him at a meeting at which the entertainment of the American fleet’s visit was discussed, to the effect that there had never been alcoholic liquor at civic functions in the Auckland Town Hall. He had made no such statement. A member of the Wellington Council has given notice of his intention to move for the withholding of the council's grant of £2030 for entertaining the visitors pending an undertaking that no part shall be spent in liquor. As the result of a report that wreckage was found on the Titahi beach yesterday. an official examination made to-day disclosed parts of a'fisherman’s boat and hatch board.
