Solid buying hv Auckland importers caused a decided jump in the Customs revenue collected nt the port last month. The duties amounted to £217,514. which is the largest monthly total received so far (his year. April is -the first month of the Customs Department's financial year, and the high revenue received augurs well for the coming 12 months. No particular feature characterises the month’s imports. Overseas shipping has been busier than usual, and -this accounts in a measure for- Hie high returns. No particular class of goods is noticeable as being more than usually prominent, and importations are well distributed over all descriptions of goods. Motor cars, of course, have long been a principal contribution to the Customs revenue, and the importations -show no sign of slackening, German goods are slowly increasing in quantify, though (here has been ho alarming influx from this source. Clearances from bond during the month were about normal.
