MOTOR LEGISLATION.
(Per Press Association.)
WELLINGTON, this day
Assertions that. Hits motor vehicles legislation had been passed hastily were re. filled by: the Minister for Public Works, when replying to a deputation from the Hutt, and Petnne carriers which waited upon him to-day to protest against the heavy traffic fees being levelled by local authorities under the pooling scheme which had been arranged by the City Council and contiguous bodies. Mi. Coates said that the roading question had to be tackled by public men now in order |,o prevent further national waste. “Those who say that this legislation is hasty make us's of that statement for other purposes,” romanced Mr. Coates, “and are not getting at the facts of the thing. We have gone into it with om eyes. open. We want to get some consensus of opinion from the users of the roads to know what is the best thing to do. We have the legislation, and now we want to get down to tin-tacks in the interests of the country.”
