COLLAPSE IN MINE.
WORKMAN KILLED. (Per Press Association! GREYMOUTH, this day. A fatal accident, occurred in the cross cut section of the Liverpool State colliery, the victim being John Knox, of Rewanui, 53 years of age. His working mate, C. H. Hughas (35) was severely injured. The two- men were last week shifted from No. "3 section to the crosscut section, and had been renewing timbering for the- removal of pillars, the work having just been completed. The who-le place collapsed, the fall of debris being over one hundred tons. Knox was killed instantly, being buried, and it took over three hours to extricate the body. Hughes mas also caught and narrowly escaped death, sustaining severe cuts on the forehead and face as well as a sprained ankle. Tho men had regarded the place as safe, and the fall came unexpectedly. Deceased came to the Coast several years ago from Green Island, where he. •leaves a family, but his wife predeceased him.
