WATERSIDE DEADLOCK.
EXTENDS TO NEW PLYMOUTH. (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. No explanation Has yet been offered. IRRITATION (STRIKES, EMPLOYERS’ INTI MAT lON. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. At a meeting of waterside, employers Ihi,s' 'morning it was decided to make no fresh calls for labor until the unions havei given a guarantee that, tho work will proceed under the award. Mr Bennett, secretary of tho Employers.’ Association, in a statement, says that immediately alter the award came into operation, on 18th December last., newspapers throughout the Dominion contained resolutions passed hv waterside unions, condemning the a,ward. Since sth February direct, action liid been resorted to.
! Mr Bennett then details the varoius stoppages, and states: “The Waterside Workers’ Federation disclaim any lcnow- , ledge of these events. Therefore tho ! employers are holding the local -unions responsible. It- is obvious that work cannot be carried out in face of the irritation strikes constantly recurring, and it has been decided that no further calls for labor will be made until the unions concerned have given a satisfactory undertaking that all vessels will be worked under the terms of the current award until its term expires. All work at Wellington is at a. standstill, except on the ferry, steamers. The vessels held up include tho Manuka, for Melbourne, and the Maunganui, bound for San Francisco. Several cpal boats'are also affected!
