HEAVY RAIN.

CANTERBURY RIVERS FLOODED. CHRISTCHURCH, February 24. The heavy rain which has been falling in the back country has caused several of the main Canterbury rivers to. rise in high flood. The Waimakariri, Rakaia, Rangitata, and other? have been affected, particularly the firstnamed, which last night broke through the north bank in the vicinity of the Belfast Hotel. The river, which has found an outlet for its flood waters here before, poured over the low-lying -country through which it flows, and , reaching the main north road between the hotel and the Empire bridge, proceeded to flood it to a. depth of about two feet. Practically no damage was done and the flood- waters subsided today.
