NEW DESIGNS OF SHIPS,
(Australian ami NZ. Cable- Association.; LONDON, Dee. 8. The. Daily Express' naval correspondent. says: Sir George Tluirton, writing in Brassey’s Annual, show.-, how naval architects can get round the Washington limitations. Sir George presents the design of ships conforming with the ten thousand ton limit, hut carrying nine eighteen inch guns and capable of firing a broadside with each projectile weighing 2246 pounds compared with the wartime 'light cruiser’s 600. The Express points out that the United! States is proposing to lay down eight new powerful Vght-cruisers, Japan and France six each, and Italy two.
Captain Kiio.c, an American officer, calls attention to the changes in the naval strengths, adding: “They will soon make a mockery of the Washington Conference by destroying the ratios and restoring expensive competitive building."
