LEAGUE OF NATIONS.

DISARMAMENT PROTOCOL,

(Reuter’s Teleernin.) ROME, Dec. 8. A public meeting of the Council of the League of Nations opened this afternoon in the presence of all the members.

Mr. Chamberlain, replying to the welcome extended to the president of the Council, emphasised the British Empire’s respect, of the League- and appreciation of its work. *

M. Briand, interviewed earlier, expressed the opinion that Britain’s desire to postpone discussion on the disarmament protocol was natural, because it was necessary for her to consult her Dominions. This did not- mean the end of the protocol, but merely delay in regard to its consideration.
